353 Alfred S. Burton was enumerated by this name in the 1850 census when he was still living with his parents. He went by the name Smith in at least three censuses, first in the 1880 Martin Co., IN, census. His father John and brother George were living with him and the rest of his family at this time. Smith was so named in the 1900 Bloomington IN and the 1920 Monroe Co. IN census. It is probable that he was named after an uncle. The children listed are those identified in censuses.

355 Algie was enumerated in the 1920 Dan River, Pittsylvania Co., VA, census as Emra (as it was spoken), living with his mother, brother, and his mother's second husband. They were mislabled as sons-in-law. James and Emery were step-sons. Algie was about 2 weeks old when his father died.

He was enumerated as Algie in the Dan River, Pittsylvania Co., VA, 1930 census (and correctly as a step-son). He was living with his mother and her husband in Pittsylvania Co. In the 1940 Rustburg, Campbell Co., VA, census, Algie N. and Eugenia C. Burton were living next door to his mother and step-father. They had been married about 9 yrs. Algie and his step-father were both railroad men.

In subsequent records, including his gravestone, he went by Algie Noel Burton. Algie served in the US Navy during WW2, enlisted 25 Oct 1943. Exact dates from SSDI. Buried in Georgetown, SC, Pennyroyal Mem. Gardens. There appear to have been no children of this marriage.

359 Alice was called Willie Alice Roper on her son's death certificate (James Pass Burton).

Alice was a minor when her father died in 1846. Her guardian was Thomas C. Pass.

Alice (4) was living with her mother, Elizabeth, and siblings Mary E. (9) and Isabella C. (7) in Caswell Co. in 1850 census. The children were all recorded as having been born in Missouri (but it was mistranscribed as Massachusetts). Clemontine was not named in this enumeration but was mentioned in her father's will. It is quite likely that Clemontine and Isabella were the same person. A 17 yr. old C. Roper was living with Thomas and Frances Brandon in the 1860 census. Frances was Isabella C.'s aunt.

In the 1860 census, Alice (14) and Henry (38 yr. old mechanic, deaf & dumb) Roper were living in Thomas C. Pass's household. Thomas's wife Jane was her aunt.

John and Alice were enumerated in the 1870 Dan River twp., Caswell Co. census, along with their two young sons.

A widowed Alice was enumerated in the 1900 Cleveland, Rowan Co., NC, census, living with 5 of her children, Jaconas [Jechonias], Lenora, Noel, Mary and Martha.

In 1910, she was living in Scotch Irish Twp, Rowan Co., with her daughter Mary. Jaconas and Noel were nearby with their families. In this census, Alice indicated that she had had 9 children, 8 of whom were alive.

Her name was given as Willie Alice Roper in her son, James Pass Burton's, death certificate. It was given as Alice Roper on her daughter Martha's death certificate.

Peter was born sometime between 1735 and 1740. He was the son of Edward Lawrence and Jenny Tullos. He passed away about 1826. [1] Some sources show that Peter may have been that last in his line to use Larrance instead of Lawrence.

Peter Larrance (c1740 - c1826) died in Culpepper Co. VA. Many descendants still live in the northern Virginia area (Fauquier, Culpepper, Rappahannock, Arlington Counties, etc.)

Peter's will named 6 daughters and 2 sons. His sons, John and Mason, both married daughters of William & Ann Neville O'Bannon. John married Joyce O'Bannon and Mason married Nancy O'Bannon. To compound the family connections, John & Joyce's daughter, Polly Lawrence, married her double first cousin, John O'Bannon Lawrence, a son of Mason & Nancy. Both John and Polly died young, leaving minor children.

380 Allen Burton married Martha Patsey Burton Jan 23, 1812 in Garrard County.

Garrett Gromer was the bondsman. Consent was given by Abraham Burton, father of the groom and Allen Burton, father of the bride.

Garrett was a witness to Sherod Burton's will and he married the widow a few months later. Garrett and "Leticia" were enumerated in the Clay Co., MO, census in 1850. They were likely there as early as 1834 when Garrett bought land. It is likely that they moved there with Letty's (probable) son, John D. Burton, and his family.

390 Allie was enumerated in the 1880 census as a two year old. Her SSA application has a DOB of 27 Oct 1876 and she apparently lied about her age on her marriage license by claiming to be 18. Her death record indicates a possible DOB of 1876 and a mother’s name of Elizabeth Wheeler (informant was a daughter). Allie’s brother Octavious’ death record correctly indicates that their mother’s name was Lucy Catherine Wheely. Carey, Allie Lillian (I6437)
