  Samuel was born in PA and the 1900 census record states that both of his parents were born in Ireland. However, 1880 census records for the individuals likely to be his parents indicate that his father and paternal grandparents were born in PA but his mother and her parents were all born in Ireland. Samuel m1 Agnes Ann Judy in 1886 in Harrisburg, PA. She died in 1891. He had m2 Rose F. (Boyd) Oswald on 12 Mar 1899 in Reading, Berks Co., PA. This marriage record states that his parents were Samuel and Mary. Living with Samuel & Rose in the 1900 census were his sons Samuel O. (13) and William (15). Rose’s daughter Lydia (17) was included in the household with her 9 month old son LeRoy F. Squires. Rose died 11 Nov 1907 (obituary at genealogybank.com). Samuel left PA some time after the death of his second wife. He was married a third time on 27 Mar 1911 in Davidson Co., NC., to Amanda Elizabeth (Huffman) Sharpe, a widow with children. He was listed as nearest relative in son William’s WW1 draft registration in 1918 in Greensboro, North Carolina. James (62) and Mandy (54) were enumerated in Guilford Co., NC, in 1920. With them were sons David (11), James Jr. (8), Charlie (17 stepson), James’ son William (33, widowed) and James’ grandsons Edward (8) and Charlie (5). The 1930 Greensboro, Guilford Co., NC, census enumerated James (71, b. PA, both parents born PA), Mandy (61, b. NC, both parents NC) and son James Patrick (18). Son David married in 1928 and was living nearby with wife Mary and new baby daughter Virginia. Samuel (81) and Mandy (71) were enumerated in Greensboro in the 1940 census. Elizabeth died on 9 Jul 1941 in Greensboro, survived by her husband and 4 sons (some of whom were Sharpes but who took the name Overly), according to her obituary. She is labeled Elizabeth Amanda “Mandy” Huffman Overly at findagrave.com and her death certificate claims that she was a widow at her death. This is inaccurate according to her obituary and according to findagrave.com records for “James S. Overly” buried in Lancaster PA. The death certificate for James S. Overly in Lancaster, PA, indicates a DOB of 30 Mar 1859 and a DOD of 22 Jan 1951, both of which vary from findagrave.com. His parents names are included therein.
