- Meredith Daniel filed a bond to marry Sally Lawson in 1807 in Person Co. He was the subject of a paternity suit filed by Lily Lawson in 1815. Document below transcribed by Scarlett Munday Grace.
“The examination of L. S. Lawson Single Woman, Bastardy-
“State of North Carolina, Person County, Whereas Lily Scipwith Lawson single Woman in the said County came before us John Holloway and Thomas Hallibuton Two of the Justices of the peace in & for the said County this 12th day of Jany in the year of our Lord 1815 and voluntarily made Oath that she was on the 10th day of November last delivered of a Child which Child was born a bastard and is liable to become Chargeable to the County aforesaid and that Meridith Daniel in the said County is the Father of the said Child. “State vs M Daniel Warrant Executed by, Executed and The Body of Meredith Daniel in custody, G. Davey, This I [?] will in [?] of [?] will Give [?] 4th day of serving this court, Jno Holloway JP
“State of North Carolina, Person County, I Gabriel Davey one of the Constables in said county, Whereas upon the examination of Lily Scipwith Lawson single Woman on this day taken an Oath before us it appears she was on the 10th day of November last delivered of a child which Child was Born a bastard and is liable to become chargeable to the said county and the said Lily Scipwith Lawson hath confesed that Meridith Daniel of the County aforesaid did beget the said Child and hath Charged him with same. These are Therefore to Command you to apprehend the said Meridith Daniel and bring him before us as any Two of the Justices of the peace for the said County, to answer said Charges Given under our hands this 12th day of J[?] the year of our Lord 1815.
